Welcome
What will it take for forest therapy to become evidence, medicine, and standards people can trust?
The Third International Conference on Forest Therapy (ICFT 2027) will be held in Vancouver, Canada, from July 9 to 12, 2027, under the theme “From Mechanisms to Medicine and Standards: Shaping the Future of Forest Therapy.” It will bring together researchers, healthcare professionals, practitioners, policymakers, educators, and innovators to discuss how forest therapy works, how it can support medicine and public health, and what standards the field needs next.
We warmly welcome you to join us, share your work, meet global peers and leaders, and help shape the next chapter of forest therapy.
Date: July 9–12, 2027
Location: 2424 Main Mall, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada
About the Conference
The Growing Relevance of Forest Therapy
Rising mental health burdens, accelerating urbanization, and reduced contact with natural environments have increased interest in nature-based approaches to health and well-being. Forest therapy is emerging as an interdisciplinary field that integrates scientific evidence, therapeutic practice, public health, and environmental design. Building on the research collaborations and knowledge exchange initiated at the inaugural conference in 2022, ICFT 2027 will further advance the evidence base, clinical applications, and professional development of forest therapy.
Broadening Our Horizons
Building on this momentum, the third conference explores emerging themes such as urban wellness, technological integration, public health systems, and innovative policy frameworks. Co-hosted by UBC and global partners, this event highlights how forest therapy can tackle today’s challenges and thrive in diverse communities worldwide.
Conference Themes
The 3rd International Conference on Forest Therapy will explore six interconnected pathways from scientific evidence to clinical translation, public health systems, cultural knowledge, and responsible innovation.
Ⅰ. Evidence-Based Forest Therapy and Clinical Translation
Examining the physiological, psychological, and neurobiological pathways through which forest therapy supports human health, with emphasis on clinical studies, biomarkers, intervention design, and measurable outcomes.
Ⅱ. From Evidence to Economy: Building a Standards-Driven Forest Wellness Industry
Exploring how research evidence and professional standards can support credible forest wellness destinations, therapeutic services, cross-sector business models, and sustainable community-based economies.
Ⅲ. The Science of Forest Factors: From Elements to Evidence
Investigating how phytoncides, negative air ions, soundscapes, lightscapes, microclimates, and visual landscapes shape human responses through biological, psychological, and sensory pathways.
Ⅳ. Prescribing Nature: Green Prescriptions in Medicine and Public Health Systems
Discussing how forest therapy and green prescriptions can be integrated into primary care, mental health services, rehabilitation, prevention, referral pathways, and public health policy.
Ⅴ. Rooted in Culture: Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Forest Therapy
Exploring how Indigenous, traditional, and local knowledge systems can inform ethical research, cultural protocols, community voices, knowledge sovereignty, and inclusive forest therapy standards.
Ⅵ. Innovation at the Forest Edge: AI and Technology in Forest Therapy
Examining how AI, wearable sensors, biomonitoring, VR, AR, soundscape simulation, and digital health platforms can support personalized, measurable, and responsible forest therapy practice.
